Schlotzsky’s opened in 1971 with a small restaurant on South Congress Ave. in Austin, Texas. Back then, we served only one sandwich — The Original. A unique combination of 13 ingredients served on toasted house-made sourdough bread. The Original, a sandwich as unique as the Schlotzsky’s name, is still served to this day, over 45 years later. We’ve now spanned across 35 states, serving up toasted sandwiches, artisan flatbreads, specialty pizzas, freshly tossed salads, gourmet soups and more. Stop by and see us for something that’ll make your taste buds sing.
Founded in 1970, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the world’s largest charitable funder of type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, raising more than $1.6 billion in research funds since its inception. T1D is an autoimmune disease that can strike at any age, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with T1D have to test their blood sugar and give themselves multiple insulin injections each and every day of their lives.
“We were extremely selective when identifying a national charitable cause that our brand could support system-wide. Our organization is happy to be working with JDRF to fund essential research toward type 1 diabetes,” said Kelly Roddy, president of Schlotzsky’s “This decision was more than an act of corporate philanthropy; this was the alignment of two organizations that are passionate about helping those with this disease.”
Each fall, Schlotzsky’s hosts a national Step Up! for JDRF campaign in our restaurants. We also regularly host numerous opportunities to raise funds for JDRF both on a national and local level through diabetes walks, galas, sneaker programs, and more. Since announcing JDRF as our corporate national cause in 2012, Schlotzsky’s has provided more than $1.2 million in support and donations to JDRF.
